Short description

The research platform MIKOWA is an academic location at BTU Cottbus–Senftenberg where we work with regional, European and international actors to analyze social conflicts in order to jointly develop approaches to create a more democratic and thus more peaceful, inclusive and diversity-friendly society. Our research focuses on issues relating to migration, conflict and social change. Relevant research areas include: Conflicts over migration and participation Conflicts over migration and diversity Conflicts at the nexus between migration and social inequality Conflicts related to the mobilization of (far-)right groups Themes include, for example, the living conditions of refugees in Brandenburg, extreme right-wing mobilizations, and the dynamics of postsocialist and post-colonial societalization. We organize lecture series, workshops, expert talks and conferences about the challenges of migration, conflict and social change. In all our activities, our aim is to create a dialogue between the social sciences and civil society and to test innovative formats of knowledge transfer between academia and practice.
