Roundtable

Invitation to the 6th Roundtable of the Bonn Platform for Forced Migration Studies

Living migration – shaping democracy – strengthening communities

The registration deadline has passed. If you are interested, please contact Ms Maarit Thiem at maarit.thiem@bicc.de.

What can we learn from (post)migrant coexistence in order to understand diversity as a social strength? What challenges do we currently face in shaping local democracy? How can experiences from migration contexts be used to strengthen democratic communities at the local level?

We look forward to discussing questions such as these with researchers from all disciplines and institutions (universities, technical colleges, non-university research institutions, think tanks), practitioners from non-governmental organisations, associations, politics or city administration, and representatives of migrant self-organisations.

Migration shapes cities, villages and neighbourhoods, bringing with it new questions, experiences and challenges. Yet migration is only one facet of social diversity, which brings new perspectives on fundamental questions of belonging and democratic coexistence. We see migration as an opportunity for democracy and as an impetus to learn from one another and to continually reshape social coexistence.

Our roundtable is inspired by our two experts
