Standing Committee “Forced Migration and Refugees”, IMISCOE

In 2024, a dedicated Standing Committee Forced Migration and Refugees within the international IMISCOE network was set up and is since chaired by FFVT member Franck Düvell (IMIS). The SCFMR established a home for forced migration and refugee studies within IMISCOE, to consolidate international networking and to support early career researchers and PhD students. The SCFMR has a governing body of 12 researchers and around 130 members (Oct. 2025). The Standing Committee perceives forced migration studies as an integrated part within the wider field of migration studies and not a separate field. It seeks to enhance equitable partnerships and localised research and to this end elected a refugee as chair, two coordinators to reach out to refugee-led organisations and PhD representatives from the Global South. To overcome the simple binary concept of a Global South and Global North and to promote dialogues across epistemic communities, a dedicated Global East chair was also elected. The activities include regular workshops at IMISCOE's conferences as well as workshops and seminars of and for PhD students. Membership does not require IMISCOE membership and is free of charge.
