The Refugee Advisory Board Germany (RAB Germany) was established by the German federal government in 2023 to ensure that the perspectives, experiences and expertise of refugees are embedded into political decision-making processes at the national and international level. As the first national body of its kind in Europe, RAB Germany is committed to strengthening the active and meaningful participation of refugees in shaping refugee, integration and migration policies.
As part of official delegations, Board members actively contribute to international forums, such as meetings of the UNHCR Executive Committee and the Global Refugee Forum Progress Review. They also engage in policy dialogues and consultations with federal ministries, academia and civil society. At the same time, RAB Germany is firmly embedded in existing networks of migrant and refugee-led organisations. In addition, the Board publishes policy briefs addressing current issues in refugee-related policy.
The Secretariat, which coordinates the Board’s activities, has been based at bicc - Bonn International Centre for Conflict Studies since July 2024. Since then, RAB Germany has received start-up funding from the Robert Bosch Foundation. Its work is currently also receiving funding from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
As an academic partner, FFVT supports the work of RAB Germany and contributes to evidence-based policy advice.
