The Future of Asylum

FFVT International Summer School on Forced Migration and Governance 2026

The third FFVT International Summer School on Forced Migration and Governance 2026 will take place from 14–20 June 2026 in Nuremberg, Germany.

Focusing on “The Future of Asylum”, the Summer School examines asylum across different governance levels. The Summer School engages with legal, political, and social-scientific perspectives on how asylum systems are shaped, implemented, and contested in contemporary contexts.

The week combines keynote lectures by international experts with interactive workshops, panel discussions, and participatory formats in which participants present their own research and engage in exchange with peers and practitioners. These academic sessions are complemented by a cultural and social programme, included guided excursion in Nuremberg as well as visits to relevant insitutions and memorial sites.

Hosted by the Center for Human Rights Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU CHREN) as part of the FFVT project “Forced Migration and Refugee Studies: Networking and Knowledge Transfer”, the Summer School brings together an interdisciplinary and international group of participants. The Summer School is organised in cooperation with the FFVT partner institutes the Bonn International Centre for Conflict Studies (bicc) and the Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS), as well as the Centre for Flight and Migration Studies at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt.
