Workshop: Building Inclusive Digital Platforms for Refugee Communities

Abstract

In a world increasingly dominated by technological advancement, refugees continue to face significant challenges in accessing essential services and integrating into their host communities. The objectives of this interactive workshop are to identify key considerations for designing inclusive digital platforms, analyse successful case studies and develop collaborative strategies to implement such platforms that support refugee communities. During the workshop, participants will engage in discussions on case studies that explore the impact of digital platforms on refugee lives. Participants will then break out into smaller groups while the workshop chair facilitates collaborative brainstorming sessions to develop action plans for creating and implementing inclusive digital platforms. This will be followed up by a short prototyping session for participants to get hands-on experience in designing inclusive digital features for online platforms. The session will wrap up with a reflection session to consolidate key takeaways and identify next steps for individual and collective action. The target audience for this workshop are broad, from educators, researchers, social workers, to advocates working with refugee communities. It would also be suitable for students seeking insights into the intersection of technology and refugee empowerment.
