Interview

Q1. Who are you?

I am a Senior Researcher at the Institute for Social and Economic Studies (IESE), based in Maputo - Mozambique

Q2. What was your motivation for applying for the FFVT fellowship? Why Germany?

My motivation for applying for the FFVT fellowship is linked to one of the research topics I am currently working on at my research center – social cohesion. Germany because I already had some scientific ties with some German researchers I used to work with in the past.

Q3. What do you expect from the fellowship?

I expect to deepen my knowledge of social cohesion – and have productive exchanges with other researchers working on the same research topic.

Q4. What is the focus of your work, and what is innovative about it? / What are your planned outcomes and activities for the fellowship period? And how do they relate to your FFVT hosting institution/ the FFVT cooperation project?

My work focuses on social cohesion in a conflict setting, based on insights from Northern Mozambique. It is innovative in that it draws on extensive fieldwork undertaken over the past three years, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches. The planned outcomes are 1 joint peer-reviewed publication and presentations in internal and international seminars and workshops. The planned outcomes are fully aligned with my FFVT hosting institution as they fit into the research topic of my fellowship – social cohesion.
